The Greek Festival kicked off this evening with a big crowd at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Road in the city of Albany. It runs through Sunday. I ran into a couple of people I know, an AP photographer and a guy who used to oversee Grant Cottage, and the wife and I discovered the fest is a big attraction for everyone from teen-agers to our somewhat older demographic. They've got lots of good Greek food, music, dance and the church itself. It's a mid-20th century modernist design on the outside, not bad for that era, but like most Orthodox and many Catholic churches, the real visual treasure is within. Check it out.
Wow I love looking at this and this was a great write up. I love how the Byzantines had their own style that is ultimately a blend of all the powers that surrounded them. Thanks so much for sharing!
