Sad story in today's TU about Fred Baye, a good guy fallen upon hard times. When he ran for Congress in the 1980s in the Republican district held by Jerry Solomon, his opponent in the Democratic primary was Ed Bloch, a UE union rep. For a while, Bloch maintained the fiction that he lived in the district, giving the Queensbury home of Judy Conley, a textile workers union rep, as his address. Baye held a news conference outside Bloch's real house in Latham, saying it was a very nice home but noting its location outside Solomon's district (the one now represented by Chris Gibson). I thought it was a cute gimmick, but Bloch won the primary and went on to lose the general election.
