The nanotech complex at the University of Albany is a pet project of Assembly Democrats, one of whose arguments has been that they're subsidizing growth in the city as opposed to Republican-pushed projects like GlobalFoundries in Saratoga County. But now the nano complex at UAlbany is luring a supposedly hotshot architectural and engineering firm out of downtown Albany to a site that while within the city limits, might as well be in the burbs. Hey EYP, how come you didn't fix up that empty train station/bank office building on Broadway (which was restored with public funds) and move there instead? Might as well ask why public broadcaster WMHT, a decade-plus ago, moved to suburban North Greenbush instead of downtown Schenectady. These guys may talk a good game (or run a great classical music radio station of which I am a member), but their leaders' actions are destructive.
