Two council member, Corey Ellis and Shawn Morris, are looking to oust four-term incumbent Mayor Jerry Jennings this year in a Democratic primary. Liberals aren't happy with Jennings, but seem likely to split their vote between Ellis (a black male) and Morris (a white female). Meanwhile, Jennings will look like a safe pair of hands in a tanking economy, and his signature project of a downtown convention center (where the bus station is now) will look like a public works lifeboat. Nor will the libs get much mileage out of denouncing the mayor for failing to close the city landfill, which delivers significant revenue to the city. The council has been feeling its oats lately over issues such as the "ghost" parking tickets, which the TU has been playing up. But as Albany machine "scandals" go, the ghost tickets are pretty small beer. It'll take a lot more than that to dethrone Erastus Corning's heir.
You're undoubtedly right, and it's a shame, because Albany is going down the drain with this vain, out-of-touch back-slapper.

Do you think the Working Families "Party" would endorse one of the primary losers?

Maybe. They're tight with the Soares wing of the Democratic Party. But I can't see their candidate beating the incumbent mayor running on the Democratic line.
