An "LGBT & Pro-Choice Fund Raiser to Support State Senator Roy McDonald" will be held Nov. 9 at the Albany Institute of History and Art. McDonald, who represents parts of Rensselaer and Saratoga counties, was the crucial first Senate Republican to change his position and get gay marriage legalized this year.
McDonald also, according to the Facebook events page put out by longtime activist Libby Post -- whom I first met in 1984 when she ran Ed Bloch's congressional campaign -- is "a staunch supporter of reproductive rights," and "his pro-choice vote can be counted on."
McDonald has been raising funds in Manhattan, too, and will obviously have plenty to spend on his re-election campaign next year. No word yet on whether he will face serious opposition in a Republican primary.
