In memoriam

Albany County's newest veterans memorial is at The Crossings park in Colonie, where even though this evening's opening ceremony was prematurely called off on account of rain, many people showed up anyway and were looking for loved ones' names on the paving bricks. Carved into the stone, above the service symbols and the small reflecting pool, are these words, nicely combining tributes to the living and the dead: "Erected and dedicated in memory of all who have served and to those who gave their lives in the service of our country in all her conflicts -- By the citizens of the Town of Colonie." The rescheduled ceremony will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
