It's not just that the ad misstates Jim Tedisco's position on capping executive pay, or has provided an opening for the NRCC to come back against Murphy by alleging he "had no problem rewarding company fat cats who lost millions." The real problem is the premise: that reminding voters about Tedisco's waffling on the stimulus package and President Obama's economic policies will help Murphy. While that issue plays well with editorial boards and proponents of gotcha politics, it just reminds independents that unlike other Republicans, Tedisco has not condemned the Obama plan.
Update: The TU links to two new negative TV ads, one from each campaign. For the above-stated reasons, the Tedisco ad works better. That makes a change from the first, positive TV ads the campaigns released, when Murphy's was better.
