Following up on my last post about Senator Malcolm Smith's financial disclosure form, it does not list many assets for someone who spent much of his life in New York City real estate development. Smith’s form, unlike those of other legislative leaders (he was minority leader when he filled it out) does not include a breakdown of assets such as stock and bank accounts-although, as noted previously about income, nobody’s file reveals how much any of these assets is worth). Smith's only listings under trusts, estates and retirement accounts are "NYS" (meaning the state retirement system, which he didn't have to declare), an IRA (unspecified) ans something illegible that may start with "Manu". Manufacturers Hanover, maybe? His only listing under securities owned is "Manu stock T Rowe Price," whatever that means. Lisa Reid, the gracious new director of the Legislative Ethics Commission, didn't know, either, and suggested asking Smith. If the senator's press people ever get back to me, I'll do that.
